Running Bucket Hats
Fractel's running bucket hat gives you all-round shade instead of a cap's fixed brim, in the same packable, quick-drying build as the rest of our range.
UPF Coverage That Packs Down Small
UPF 50+ and breathable mesh panels keep the shade coming without trapping heat, and the soft brim won't slap against your face when you pick up the pace. It's a unisex fit available in SM/M and L/XL, and packs down small enough to stash in a running vest.
Choose a plain colourway for every day, or one of our seasonal prints if you want more colour on the run. Good for trail loops, coastal paths and any long day where you want more coverage than a cap without losing airflow.
Prefer more structure? Try our running caps or trucker hats, or step up to full coverage with our legionnaire hats. Browse the wider headwear range for everything else.
FAQs
Are running bucket hats actually good performance gear, or just casual wear?
Our bucket hats are performance gear first: they're lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking and made for movement, not just for lifestyle. The 360 degree brim gives all-round shade, making them especially popular for slower long runs, hikes, and all-day adventures in the sun.
Do Fractel running bucket hats stay on in windy conditions?
The soft brim is designed to flex rather than catch wind, and an adjustable fastening at the back helps keep things secure. In very windy conditions, we generally suggest a standard cap or legionnaire hat, but many runners happily use our buckets for breezy trail and road days. Check out our size guide to make sure the hat you buy stays on in windy conditions.
What kind of sun and weather protection do they offer?
Our B‑Series bucket hats provide UPF-rated coverage across the brim and body, with darker under-brims to reduce glare and an internal SWIFTdry™ sweatband to manage sweat. This combination makes them great for hot, bright conditions where you still want breathability.
Are running bucket hats packable and easy to travel with?
Yes - our buckets use soft, pliable brims and durable recycled fabrics so you can fold or roll them into a pack and they’ll bounce back to shape. Just avoid long-term storage while crushed, and let them air-dry if they get wet.
Will a running bucket hat stay on in the wind while I run?
Our brims are cut for running, not lounging, so they're short enough to keep your sightlines clear and soft enough to flex in wind instead of catching it like a wider brim would. For extra security in gusty conditions, our B-SAPWOOD style has a detachable chin strap. Our other bucket hats rely on the secure fit itself.
